CatchIT series: Theory Meets Reality

Időpont:

We look forward to welcoming you to CatchIT's upcoming event!

In this season-closing event, we bring you an Expert talk and two Talent spotlight presentations, so you can look forward to the following presentations (and of course open discussions)!

This season ends with more than just great talks: we’ll also hold our CatchIT prize lottery at the end of the event. Bring your collected CatchIT coins and join the draw before we close the semester.

◆ EXPERT TALK ◆
Dr. Ádám Schiffer / Associate Professor @ PTE-MIK: From University to Industry: What Actually Works
Modern engineering education often struggles to keep pace with real industry expectations. While students gain strong theoretical knowledge, they rarely have the opportunity to work on real-world problems during their studies.

This talk explores how universities can bridge this gap by integrating project-based learning, industry collaboration, and interdisciplinary approaches into everyday education.

Through concrete examples, we present a practical model where students become active contributors to real engineering challenges, supported by academic and industrial mentors. The session will also feature a student perspective, demonstrating how this approach transforms learning into real experience. Our goal is to show what actually works when connecting education, innovation, and industry in a meaningful way.

◆ TALENT SPOTLIGHT ◆
Berta Mach / IT PMO Analyst @ Calderys: From University to Industry
University education often promises to prepare students for real-world professional environments, yet the transition can still feel challenging. This talk reflects on how real projects during my studies helped bridge that gap. Working on interdisciplinary biomedical engineering projects related to minimally invasive surgical training allowed me to collaborate with engineers, medical professionals, and fellow students while experiencing both research and practical problem solving.

Through experiences in both biomedical engineering research and IT project management, the presentation highlights how interdisciplinary collaboration and hands-on projects shape practical skills that traditional coursework often cannot provide. These projects offered insight not only into research, but also into teamwork, communication across disciplines, and the realities of working on complex problems. The talk shares lessons learned, challenges encountered, and practical insights into what actually helps students transition from university to professional environments.

◆ TALENT SPOTLIGHT ◆
Patrícia Huck, Tamás Bécsi, Ákos Gyetvai / Students @ PTE BTK, KTK and KPVK: What is UNI-WALK about?
Our basic concept is that walking treadmills should be installed primarily on university grounds. This would be an important step in preserving the health of university students. To make the walk less boring, these machines would operate with a reward system. An important detail is that the machines would be equipped with adjustable desks. This would allow students to study or work on their computers while moving.
